Scientology is airing "The Way to Happiness" ads on National TV

Apparently, the "Church" of Scientology is airing "The Way to Happiness" ad, or TWTH, on National TV according to a poster at freekatie.net. She writes:

"Last night while watching "Flip This House" on A&E a commercial came on for what was obviously going to be some sort of "love your kids" type of organization. It had this girl waiting backstage for her father to show up at a play she was doing and her mean friends were ridiculing her, saying he wasn't going to show. She kept saying "I trust him." Cut to said dad running crazily through the streets to get to the play--which he does just as the curtain is going up, causing a big smile on his daughter's face. The organization the commercial was promoting? The Way To Happiness--complete with their website address.

Great, now they're advertising on tv."

Here's a Youtube.com link to the ad mentioned above:

I remember the ads that used to run late at night for Dianetics, with the volcano and all. Very cheesy. I just watched this new ad on youtube.com and it's definitely glossier but people nowadays are more aware that Scientology is a destructive cult . It seems to me that even though some folks may be taken in by this ad, they'll eventually figure out it's just one of the many Scientology's front groups. I think people are too smart these days to fall for something like this considering all the bad press Scientology has been getting the last 20 years or more.

So ironic, too, that this ad shows a father scrambling away from work so he won't miss his kid's play. I bet a lot of plays and family activities have been missed by Scientologist parents (those who were even allowed to have kids, that is) and with disconnection in Scientology is only makes matters worse. What a sad, sad, "religion".

This ad is #14 out of 21 PSAs from the Way to Happiness campaign. You can view all the tacky ads at www.twth.org. Let me save you the trouble and list all the "moral precepts" in the commercials.

1. Take care of yourself.
2. Be temperate.
3. Don't be promiscuous ("cheating hurts")
4. Love and help children.
5. Honor and help your parents.
6. Set a good example.
7. Seek to live with the truth.
8. Do not murder.
9. Don't do anything illegal.
10. Support a government designed and run for all the people.
11. Do not harm a person of goodwill.
12. Safeguard and improve your environment. (picture of planet Earth: "your home is being destroyed")
13. Do not steal.
14. Be worthy of trust.
15. Fulfill your obligations.
16. Be industrious.
17. Be competent.
18. Respect the religious beliefs of others.
19. Try not to do things to others that you would not like them to do to you.
20. Try to treat others as you would want them to treat you.
21. Flourish and prosper. (group of various people saying "give up": "take their advice and throw it out the window")

Anyway, I smell desperation on the the "Church" of Scientology's part here. What do you think?
