These are the three South Park episodes that have a story line based around Scientology. These videos made headlines and I feel are extremely controversial. The most notable episode, "Trapped in the Closet", received an Emmy nomination. That same episode is the sole reason Scientologist Isaac Hayes (Chef) quit South Park. The videos are great viewing for anyone who has never seen them before and fun for those who haven't watched them in a while. Enjoy!
Trapped in the closet
About this episode:
"Trapped in the Closet", the twelfth episode of the ninth season of the Comedy Central series South Park, originally aired on November 16, 2005. The plot of the episode centers on the South Park character Stan Marsh, as he joins Scientology in an attempt to find something "fun and free". After the discovery of his surprisingly high "thetan levels", he is recognized as the reincarnation of the founder of the church, L. Ron Hubbard. Episode makes almost 100 references to Tom Cruise being "In the closet".
Chef returns to South Park
About this episode:
"The Return of Chef", or referred to as "Life Without Chef Part 2", is episode 140 of Comedy Central's animated series South Park and aired on March 22, 2006. It was advertised as the tenth season premiere. It was also #1 on the "10 South Parks That Changed The World" list.
The episode parodies so-called "very special episodes", heavily satirizes Scientology, and is notable for its timing after the sudden departure of Isaac Hayes, who had voiced Chef on the series since its inception. His leaving South Park was because of the highly controversial Scientology episode, "Trapped in the Closet".
The Church of Blainetology
About this episode:
A street magician named David Blaine comes to South Park. The boys are tricked into becoming "Blaintologists". Stan is creeped out and soon leaves; Kyle refuses to join him. Stan looks for help from South Park's own resident messiah, Jesus. The comparisons to Scientology are really interesting. It shows everything from disconnection to brainwashing.
From the creators of South Park:
"So, Scientology, you may have won THIS battle, but the million-year war for earth has just begun! Temporarily anozinizing our episode will NOT stop us from keeping Thetans forever trapped in your pitiful man-bodies. Signed: "Trey Parker and Matt Stone, servants of the dark lord Xenu."
